Post-Neurotoxin Injection Care Instructions

For patients receiving Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, or Daxxify®

What to Do After Your Treatment

• Stay upright for at least 4 hours after your injections.

• Use facial muscles gently (smile, frown, raise eyebrows) for 1 hour to help the product settle.

• Apply cold compresses (10 minutes on, 10 minutes off) to reduce swelling or bruising.

• Take Tylenol (acetaminophen) if you experience discomfort (avoid ibuprofen or aspirin).

• Keep your skin clean and avoid touching the injection sites.

• Sleep with your head elevated the first night if swelling occurs.

What to Avoid

• Do not rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas for 24 hours.

• Avoid lying down or bending over for 4 hours post-treatment.

• No strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, or tanning beds for 24–48 hours.

• Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications for 24 hours.

• Do not apply makeup or skincare products to the treated area for the rest of the day.

• Avoid facials, chemical peels, or microneedling for 7 days.

What to Expect

• Mild redness, swelling, or bruising is normal and should resolve in a few days.

• Results typically begin to appear in 3–7 days, with full effect in 10–14 days.

• Effects last approximately 3–4 months.

Follow-Up

• Schedule a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks to assess results and make any necessary adjustments.

• Contact your provider if you experience:

  • Severe pain or swelling

  • Difficulty swallowing or breathing

  • Muscle weakness in untreated areas
